Statement of Values and Beliefs
CSR Developments was founded on the belief that business
can and should produce social good and contribute to the sustainability
of our planet's ecosystem while producing financial returns that
reasonably reward the risk and commitment of our shareholders.
While we have lofty goals, we recognize that we will fall short of our aim on occasion. We strive for progress, not perfection, and welcome input from all stakeholders that can help us achieve more and do better.
Therefore,
we are dedicated to working in accordance with the following Principles:
Millennium Development Goals
We fully support the Millennium Development Goals of the
United Nations and will actively seek to further them.
Social Value Creation
We believe that local communities and stakeholders deserve
to benefit from business activities in their areas. To this end, we
will seek innovative and sustainable ways to support the ongoing sustainable
social and economic development of communities in the vicinity of our
operation.
Environmental Stewardship
Earth's ecosystem is the ultimate source of wealth and value
creation. Traditional approaches to business and growth have steadily
threatened that ecosystem. More careful approaches can protect, and
even enhance, that ecosystem. This must include meeting or exceeding international
environmental standards. It can include the imaginative
use of alternatives to protect scarce or threatened resources and husband our
planet's natural capital. It must include engaging with stakeholders
to develop and support environmental activities. It will also include measuring
our impact on the ecosystem and striving to become a regenerative company.
HIV/AIDS
HIV/AIDS is a devastating reality for far too many people,
especially in Sub-Saharan Africa. Our approach to HIV/AIDS will include:
non-discrimination in hiring; providing access to anonymous
voluntary counselling and testing for all employees; liberal distribution
of condoms; working with stakeholders to ensure HIV positive employees
and their immediate families have access to anti retro-viral drugs;
and other actions that will support our employees and our stakeholder
communities.
Human Rights
In all that we do we will respect the dignity and rights
of the people we work with and who work with us. We will honour the spirit
and letter of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights of the United Nations.
Ethics and Transparency
In all our actions and deeds we will act ethically. We
support and will work in accordance with the OECD's Guidelines on Multinational
Enterprise.
Public/Private Partnerships
We believe that public/private partnerships are an effective
way to create social value and foster environmental stewardship. We
will collaborate with governments, civil society and international agencies
in order to become more efficient at fostering social value and environmental
stewardship.
Financial Sustainability
We recognize that without adequate financial returns we
will not be able to achieve any of the above objectives. CSR Developments
will be operated and managed to provide strong financial returns. We believe
that working in accordance with the above principles will support our
financial goals.
